Motor Unit Activation Profiles of the Medial Gastrocnemius During Gait in Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Pilot Study

Project overview
Children with cerebral palsy often walk differently due to changes in how their muscles are activated. However, these differences are not always visible from movement alone.
This project examines how individual motor units within the calf muscle are activated during walking in children with cerebral palsy. By using advanced muscle activity measurements during gait (high-density EMG), the study aims to better understand how neural control of the muscle differs from typical development.
Improved understanding of muscle activation patterns may help explain why certain walking patterns occur and support more targeted rehabilitation strategies in the future.
